So I just got word from a friend today about a new home roasting appliance that is to debut at the SCAA show. It's called the Behmor 1600. It is designed by Joe Behm, and supposedly he has been working on it since 2000. The big claim for the machine was a "smokeless" 1 pound roaster. The machine itself kind of looks like a toaster oven, sitting on teh kitchen counter. The front of the machine is solid, except for a viewing glass area to see the beans. The interior is lighted as well so that it is easier to see the beans.

Other key features of the roaster are:

- 1/4, 1/2, 1 pound capacity (you set it on the front panel)
- Fairly quiet, at around 50db at max sound.
- 1500W power
- a "Patented cooling system" (though I'm waiting for a response about how the roaster cools - long the achilles heel of most home roasters)
- Size is 17.5" long, 10.5" high, 12.5" deep
- Programmable profiles and temperature settings
- Easy "extend roast" buttons with (I'm guessing" no limitations like the Hottop

And the best news of all is that it will probably retail for $300 or less.
