Espresso machines are a fixture in many people’s lives now but do you know when the first espresso coffee was created. Back in 1903, a man named Luigi Bezzera wanted a speedy way to make coffee and that is where the idea began. Once he discovered how to pressurize the coffee process the world was well on their way to the first espresso machines and the rest is history.
As you can tell by his name he is Italian, which is where the word espresso came from. Espresso means fast and he called his first espresso coffee machines the Fast Coffee Machine.
Luigi owned a manufacturing business and was not the best marketer so in 1905 he sold the rights to his espresso coffee machines to a company called Desidero Pavoni who exposed it to the people. If you are in Italy or see a store sign that says La Pavoni know that inside is a café and coffee. Like many major inventions after espresso coffee machines were created the craze began and you could not find a place that didn’t have one.
